IPRS

“IPRS” is the audit-linked placement reporting label you hear most around Ahmedabad.

IPRS (Indian Placement Reporting Standards / Standard) is the audit-linked reporting discipline some campuses use so placement figures are not only institute-authored marketing tables. IIM Ahmedabad’s public communications are the clearest IPRS-linked example in our coverage.

Why it matters

Many Indian B-schools publish placement PDFs written by the institute. IPRS-style reporting adds third-party audit discipline and clearer definitions (often MEP rather than inflated CTC stacks). That improves year-to-year honesty inside one campus series. It does not automatically make cross-campus screenshots comparable.

How to use IPRS numbers

StepAction
1Open the audited PDF or IPRS note linked from the institute site
2Copy the definition paragraph (MEP vs CTC vs fixed cash)
3Prefer median over mean and over highest package
4Pair with the fee circular for the same cohort
5Only then compare to a non-IPRS peer, with a definition bridge

Worked guide: how to read IIM placement reports. Definition sibling: MEP.

Worked shortlist example

A household shortlists Ahmedabad and a non-IPRS peer. They paste Ahmedabad’s IPRS median MEP next to the peer’s average CTC from a coaching PDF, then conclude the peer “pays more.” The mistake is definition stacking: IPRS discipline and cash-eligible labels on one side, an unaudited CTC bundle on the other. Fix: copy each PDF’s definition footnote into the sheet, label the column (MEP or CTC), and compare only after both sides use the same family of cash. If the peer never publishes MEP, keep two columns and refuse a single “package winner” cell until footnotes exist for both.

Misuse story

One family treated the IPRS badge as a permission slip to trust every screenshot labelled “IIM placement.” They financed EMI on a highest-package WhatsApp forward that never appeared in the audited PDF. Deposit day arrived; the fee circular matched the review, the placement claim did not. Audited reporting raises the bar for one campus’s own tables. It does not certify third-party graphics, and it does not replace reading the fee circular for the same cohort year.

Common traps

  • Treating “IPRS” as a guarantee that two campuses used identical cash definitions.
  • Quoting an unaudited coaching screenshot as IPRS.
  • Updating to a new fee year while keeping an old IPRS cohort.

Frequently asked questions

Does IPRS mean two campuses used the same salary definition?

No. IPRS raises honesty inside one campus’s audited series. Cross-campus comparisons still need a definition bridge for MEP, CTC, and fixed cash.

Can I trust every “IIM placement” screenshot because Ahmedabad uses IPRS?

No. IPRS does not certify third-party graphics. Open the audited PDF or institute note linked from the campus site.
