IIM Jammu fees and ROI

IIM Jammu lists the MBA 2026-28 fee at ₹22,80,756 (₹22.80 lakh) across six terms, plus a ₹50,000 refundable caution deposit and mess on actuals. Median CTC was ₹15.80 LPA for MBA 2023-25 and ₹15.00 LPA for MBA 2024-26, so the fee is roughly 1.4 to 1.5 years of median CTC before tax and living costs.

What you will actually pay

Budget more than ₹22.80 lakh. IIM Jammu’s fee structure page lists the MBA 2026-28 total at ₹22,80,756 over six terms. A ₹50,000 refundable caution deposit sits on top of that, and mess bills are paid on actuals, so neither appears in the headline. The MBA Handbook for Batch 2026-28 (Annexure IV) repeats the same table and adds the term due dates.

For ROI, the institute’s own final placement reports, linked from the final placements page, give two recent centres. MBA 2023-25: median CTC ₹15.80 LPA, average ₹16.04 LPA. MBA 2024-26 (class of 2026): median CTC ₹15.00 LPA, average ₹16.47 LPA. Both are labelled CTC. That puts the fee at about 1.4 to 1.5 years of median CTC before tax, interest, and living costs, which is on the expensive side for a baby IIM. Hostel sits inside the “other expenses” line per the fee page, which helps when you compare Jammu against campuses that bill hostel separately. Mess does not. The institute does not publish a per-term mess figure, so ask the student affairs office or a current student for the last two terms’ actual bills before you lock the budget.

The Handbook lists tentative due dates from 13 July 2026 (Term I) to 12 December 2027 (Term VI), with payment counted on the date the money lands in IIM Jammu’s account. Late registration costs ₹2,000 with permission and more without it. The Handbook also states that no refund is admissible on term fees once you register for that term and withdraw voluntarily. Treat every term payment as committed cash.

Build an all-in cash budget

A household model for Jammu has five buckets:

  1. Programme fee of ₹22,80,756 on the six-term schedule
  2. Caution deposit of ₹50,000, refundable at exit
  3. Mess actuals across roughly 21 months on campus
  4. Travel and placement costs: flights or trains to summer internships, interview trips, and home visits from J&K
  5. Opportunity cost of two years of forgone salary if you already earn

Add ₹3 to ₹4.5 lakh beyond the fee for mess, travel, laptop, clothing, and incidentals as a planning band. That band is our editorial estimate, not an institute quote. Jammu itself is cheaper to live in than a metro, but the campus is far from most recruiter cities, so travel weighs more here than at Indore or Nagpur. A realistic all-in for a fresher lands near ₹26 to ₹27.5 lakh before forgone salary.

Write every excluded line into a spreadsheet before you talk to a loan officer. If you cannot name the mess estimate and the caution refund terms, you are not ready to accept.

Which placement figure to use for ROI

Jammu publishes CTC summaries per batch, which is better disclosure than many baby IIMs. Two batches matter for a 2026 decision:

MetricMBA 2023-25MBA 2024-26
Median CTC₹15.80 LPA₹15.00 LPA
Average CTC₹16.04 LPA₹16.47 LPA
Highest CTC₹26.6 LPA₹26.60 LPA
Lowest CTCNot stated₹9.00 LPA
Batch size255283

Sources: MBA 2023-25 final placement report and MBA 2024-26 final placement report, both linked from the institute’s final placements page.

The median fell by ₹0.80 LPA while the batch grew and the average rose. That pattern usually means a stronger top of the batch and a softer middle. Plan on the newer ₹15.00 LPA median, then stress-test 20 percent lower, near ₹12 LPA. The ₹9.00 LPA lowest CTC in the 2024-26 report shows how far below the centre a weak season can land.

Both reports state CTC only. Neither breaks out fixed cash, joining bonus, or variable pay, so first-year take-home will sit below these numbers. Ask two recent graduates what fixed cash their offer letter showed. Definition rules live in how to read IIM placement reports and the CTC glossary entry.

Directional payback

Simple pre-tax illustration: ₹22,80,756 ÷ ₹15.80 LPA is about 1.44 years of the 2023-25 median. Against the 2024-26 median of ₹15.00 LPA it is about 1.52 years. Add the ₹3 to ₹4.5 lakh living band and the all-in figure moves to roughly 1.7 to 1.8 years of median CTC. Tax, loan interest during the course, and fixed-cash haircuts push real payback well past two years for a median graduate on a full loan.

Our review rounds paybackYears to 1.4 on fee divided by the cited 2023-25 median. Treat it as a fee-only ratio, and size EMI on the longer all-in figure.

Run your own inputs in the ROI calculator with your interest rate, any scholarship, and a conservative first-year fixed cash. If you already earn ₹10 LPA or more, add two years of that salary to the true cost. Fee-only payback flatters people who quit good jobs. Scoring logic is on our methodology page.

Scholarships and loans

The 2026-28 Handbook describes a need-cum-merit tuition waiver for second-year students with a first-year CGPA of at least 7.00 and no D or F grade. Gross family income below ₹3 lakh earns a 100 percent tuition waiver, ₹3 to 4 lakh earns 50 percent, and ₹4 to 5 lakh earns 25 percent. Recipients are capped at 10 percent of the batch. At full value the waiver covers second-year tuition of ₹7,18,905; it does not touch the “other expenses” line or year-one cash. SC/ST and minority scholarships from central ministries are facilitated separately.

On loans, the Handbook says the institute has arrangements with banks and will recommend students, while repayment terms are between you and the lender. Most banks treat the published fee as loan-eligible. Mess, travel, and the caution deposit often sit partly outside disbursement, so fund them from savings or ask for them in writing. Compare fee stickers carefully

CampusFee signal (Sep 2026 reviews)Outcome label to pair
Jammu₹22.80 lakh; caution and mess extraMedian ₹15.00 LPA CTC (2024-26); ₹15.80 LPA (2023-25)
Kashipur₹20.80 lakh total (2026-28)Median ₹14.46 LPA CTC (2023-25 audited)
Nagpur≈₹21.00 lakh cited for 2026-28Median ₹17.03 LPA CTC (2023-25)
Bodh Gaya≈₹17.96 lakh citedVerify median in latest audited PDF

Jammu carries the highest sticker in this set. Nagpur pairs a slightly lower fee with a higher cited median and a central location, which is why our review prefers it when you hold both. Bodh Gaya is about ₹4.8 lakh cheaper on sticker and ranks higher on NIRF 2025 (#31 versus #35). Kashipur ranks #23 and costs ₹2 lakh less, with a similar median. Compare all-in cash and the CTC label row by row before brand talk.

Jammu has a case when J&K is a practical advantage for your family, when you value its dual international accreditation, or when it is your best IIM call. Admissions often run through CAP; confirm the year’s notice, because acceptance deposits and refund clocks follow the institute’s own offer letter.

Before you accept or decline

  • Download the 2026-28 fee table and Handbook Annexure IV for your batch
  • Write the ₹50,000 caution, ₹50,000 acceptance adjustment, and a mess estimate into one sheet
  • Ask a current student for the last two terms’ actual mess bills
  • Price travel from Jammu to your likely summer city twice over
  • Model EMI on the ₹15.00 LPA median and on 20 percent below it in the ROI calculator
  • Check whether you could qualify for the second-year need-cum-merit waiver, and do not count it until it is awarded
  • Remember term fees are non-refundable once you register for a term
  • Read the review once the money model holds

Frequently asked questions

Is ₹22.80 lakh the full two-year cost of IIM Jammu?

No. ₹22,80,756 is the published programme fee. The ₹50,000 refundable caution deposit, mess on actuals, travel, and personal costs are extra.

Does the IIM Jammu fee include hostel?

The fee page says the “other academic/non-academic expenses” line covers hostel among other items. Mess is billed separately on actuals.

How is the fee split across terms?

Terms I, II, III, V, and VI are ₹3,79,126 each and Term IV is ₹3,85,126. Year one totals ₹11,37,378 and year two ₹11,43,378.

What happens to the ₹50,000 I pay when accepting the offer?

The Handbook says it is adjusted against the Term I fee. The separate ₹50,000 caution deposit is refundable.

Which median should I use for payback?

Use the newer ₹15.00 LPA median CTC from the MBA 2024-26 report, then stress-test 20 percent lower. The ₹15.80 LPA 2023-25 median is useful context. Both are CTC, so haircut toward fixed cash.

Does IIM Jammu offer fee waivers?

Yes, a need-cum-merit tuition waiver for second-year students with family income under ₹5 lakh and CGPA of 7.00 or above, capped at 10 percent of the batch. It does not reduce year-one fees.

Is IIM Jammu worth the premium over Bodh Gaya or Kashipur?

Only when location, accreditation, or your offer set favour Jammu. On fee and NIRF alone, both peers look cheaper. See the review for the full comparison.

Where do I verify these numbers?

Fee structure page, MBA Handbook 2026-28, and the final placements page, plus our fees framework.
