“I’m in JAP” means another shared PI cluster for a published set of IIMs, not one joint offer.
JAP (Joint Admission Process) is a shared shortlist and interview coordination process used by a published set of IIMs in a given CAT cycle. Like CAP, it reduces duplicate PI logistics. It does not create one joint final merit list for every participating campus.
2026 research snapshot
For JAP 2026, public materials described participation by IIM Kashipur, IIM Raipur, IIM Ranchi, and IIM Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), with IIM Raipur as coordinating institute. Exact portals, cutoffs, and dates are cycle-specific. Confirm on that year’s JAP site and each institute’s admission note.
What JAP does and does not do
| JAP typically does | JAP typically does not |
|---|---|
| Invite eligible CAT applicants who opted the participating campuses to register | Replace institute-specific final composites |
| Shortlist for a shared PI window after registration | Guarantee offers from every participating IIM |
| Publish category-wise PI cutoff bands for that cycle | Include BLACKI campuses by default |
| Leave merit lists, waitlists, and deposits to each IIM | Freeze next year’s participant list |
JAP versus CAP versus standalone
- CAP: another shared-logistics cluster; the 2026 research snapshot centred on Jammu, Bodh Gaya, and Sirmaur. See CAP and CAP explained.
- JAP: separate joint PI cluster for its own published set in that year.
- Standalone: institute-run shortlists and interview calendars (typical for BLACKI and several campuses outside CAP/JAP).
Full waitlist and deposit guidance: CAP, JAP, and waitlists. Broader map: selection criteria explained.
Practical checklist
- Confirm whether each target campus is JAP, CAP, or standalone for your CAT year.
- Complete JAP registration on time; missing it usually drops candidature for that process.
- Treat post-PI offers and waitlists as four (or N) separate decisions.
- Read campus reviews before you equate every JAP call.
Frequently asked questions
Is JAP the same as CAP?
No. Both share interview logistics for a published campus set. Participant lists, portals, and cutoffs differ by cycle. Confirm which cluster each target campus uses for your CAT year.
