What you will actually pay

Budget more than ₹21.00 lakh. IIM Nagpur’s MBA 2026-28 fee circular, dated 17 December 2025 and linked from the fees, financial aid and scholarship page, states the fee as ₹21,00,000 excluding the refundable caution deposit of ₹50,000. A footnote says tuition does not include mess or food charges. With the caution deposit, the circular’s own total is ₹21,50,000, and ₹4,50,000 is due as Term 1 cash.

For ROI, pair that fee with the institute’s own placement numbers. The Placement Brochure MBA 2026-27 reports final placements for the MBA 2024-26 batch (356 students) at median CTC ₹16.32 LPA and average CTC ₹18.08 LPA, with a footnote that the statistics reflect placements “as of the current date” and may be upgraded. Treat those as provisional CTC figures. Batch tables: IIM Nagpur 2025 placement report on placement.report.

The MBA 2026-28 fee schedule, term by term

Nagpur publishes a clean six-term table. Here it is as the circular lists it.

LineTerm 1Term 2Term 3Year total
Year 1 (2026-27) tuition₹2,85,000₹3,40,000₹3,40,000₹9,65,000
Admission offer acceptance fee (part of tuition)₹1,00,000₹1,00,000
Welfare and alumni fee₹15,000₹15,000
Caution deposit (refundable)₹50,000₹50,000
LineTerm 4Term 5Term 6Year total
Year 2 (2027-28) tuition₹3,25,000₹3,40,000₹3,40,000₹10,05,000
Welfare and alumni fee₹15,000₹15,000

Add the rows and you get ₹10.80 lakh in Year 1 and ₹10.20 lakh in Year 2, which is the ₹21.00 lakh headline. The ₹1,00,000 acceptance payment is adjusted against the Term 1 fee due at programme registration, according to the fees page. Term 2 to Term 6 fees fall due on the registration day for each term.

Two things the circular does not tell you. It does not price mess, and it does not say whether hostel accommodation sits inside tuition. Ask the admissions office in writing before you finalise the loan amount, and keep the reply with your offer letter. Our numbers are stamped October 2026 and should lose to any newer institute PDF.

Build an all-in cash budget

A household model for Nagpur has four buckets:

  1. Programme fee of ₹21.00 lakh on the six-term schedule above
  2. Refundable caution deposit of ₹50,000 with Term 1
  3. Mess, laptop, travel, and interview clothing across two years
  4. Opportunity cost of two years of forgone salary if you already earn well

Families tend to budget only bucket one. Banks lend against one and two, and sometimes part of three. As an editorial planning band, add ₹2.5 to ₹4.5 lakh over two years for mess, books, a laptop, summer internship relocation, and travel home. That band is our judgment from typical campus living costs; the institute does not quote it. Nagpur is a cheaper city than Mumbai or Bangalore, and its central rail and air links keep home-travel costs reasonable for most of India. Summer internships in metros can still cost you a month of rent before the first stipend lands.

Write every line into one spreadsheet. If you cannot name the mess charge and the hostel position for your batch, you are not ready to accept.

Which placement number to pair with the fee

Nagpur publishes a placement brochure every year on its batch profile and placement brochures page. The two most recent finals readings, both labelled CTC by the institute, are:

BatchStudentsMedian CTCAverage CTCSource
MBA 2024-26356₹16.32 LPA₹18.08 LPABrochure 2026-27; provisional
MBA 2023-25264₹17.03 LPA₹18.07 LPABrochure 2025-26

Our review uses the brochure’s ₹17.03 LPA 2023-25 median. The direction matters more than any single print: the batch grew by about 35 percent and the median slipped while the average held. For a household planning a loan, that is the signal to plan on median.

Neither brochure is labelled as an audited report, and neither separates fixed cash from variable pay. Treat both as institute-published CTC and haircut toward fixed cash in your model. Definition rules live in how to read IIM placement reports.

Directional payback (not a promise)

Simple pre-tax illustration: ₹21.00 lakh ÷ ₹16.32 LPA median CTC is about 1.3 years of median. Against the 2023-25 median of ₹17.03 LPA it is about 1.2 years, which matches the review’s editorial paybackYears: 1.2. Add the living band and the ratio moves toward 1.5. Taxes, loan interest during the course, and post-MBA rent stretch it further.

Run your own inputs in the ROI calculator: scholarship status, interest rate, and a first-year salary 20 percent below median CTC. If you already earn ₹15 LPA or more, add forgone salary to the true cost of attending. Fee-only payback charts flatter people who quit good jobs. Our scoring logic for ROI sits in methodology.

Compare fee stickers carefully

Visakhapatnam₹23.58 lakh PGP 2026-28 (caution, mess extra)Verify latest final reportCheck PDF

Inclusions differ and batch years differ. Raipur’s lower sticker is for an older batch and excludes boarding. Visakhapatnam costs more on paper. Sambalpur sits close to Nagpur on fee with a lower published median. Compare all-in cash first and definition labels second, then decide whether NIRF and location justify the gap. Nagpur placed #25 on NIRF Management 2025, ahead of Visakhapatnam and Sambalpur and behind Raipur.

Scholarships, loans, and acceptance cash

The fees, financial aid and scholarship page lists 20 institute scholarships: 10 merit awards for top scorers with CAT at the 95th percentile or above, and 10 need-cum-merit awards for families earning under ₹8 lakh a year. Selected students receive a full tuition fee waiver for the two years, chosen through an internal process. Twenty awards across a batch of 300+ means most students should model the full fee.

The same page points to the PM-Vidyalaxmi scheme for collateral-free, guarantor-free education loans with possible interest subvention, and lists bank tie-up documents from public and private lenders. Loans are between you and the bank; the institute provides fee details and a bonafide certificate. Central and Maharashtra state scholarships for eligible categories are also listed. For the general loan playbook, read scholarships and education loans.

The ₹1,00,000 acceptance fee is real cash with a refund policy attached. Nagpur has commonly admitted through CAP, so read that year’s refund rules before you wire money while holding parallel offers. The CAP guide covers the sequencing.

Before you accept or decline

  • Download the MBA 2026-28 fee circular yourself and check the date (17 December 2025 at the time of writing)
  • Ask admissions in writing for the mess charge and whether hostel sits inside tuition
  • Put ₹4,50,000 of Term 1 cash in your calendar against the offer-letter deadline
  • Open the latest placement brochure and write median CTC, average CTC, batch size, and the provisional footnote
  • Model EMI at 20 percent below median CTC in the ROI calculator
  • Re-run the sheet if you win a merit or need-cum-merit waiver
  • Read the review once the money model is honest

Frequently asked questions

Is ₹21.00 lakh the full two-year cost at IIM Nagpur?

It is the published programme fee for MBA 2026-28. The ₹50,000 refundable caution deposit and mess charges are extra, and the circular does not state hostel treatment. Budget an additional ₹2.5 to ₹4.5 lakh for living as a planning band.

How much do I pay at the start?

The circular puts total Term 1 cash at ₹4,50,000: ₹2,85,000 tuition, ₹1,00,000 acceptance fee, ₹15,000 welfare and alumni fee, and the ₹50,000 caution deposit. The acceptance fee is adjusted against the Term 1 fee.

Has the IIM Nagpur fee gone up?

The 2026-28 circular is the only one we verified on the institute site. Older batch figures circulating online come from secondary sites, so we do not print them. Compare against the circular for your own batch year.

Which median should I use for payback?

Use the latest institute figure, ₹16.32 LPA CTC for MBA 2024-26, while noting the brochure calls it provisional. Then stress-test 20 percent lower. The 2023-25 median of ₹17.03 LPA came from a smaller batch.

Can an education loan cover the full fee?

The programme fee is usually loan-eligible, and the institute lists PM-Vidyalaxmi and several bank tie-ups. Mess, laptop, and travel often sit partly outside disbursement. Model EMI on a below-median outcome before you sign.

How do the institute scholarships work?

Twenty awards a year: 10 merit (CAT 95th percentile and above, top ten scorers) and 10 need-cum-merit (family income under ₹8 lakh). Winners get a full tuition waiver for two years. Do not assume one when you accept.

Is Nagpur worth ₹3 lakh more than Raipur?

Usually Raipur wins when you hold both, on NIRF #15 and a higher published median. Nagpur can win on location or a better sector fit. See the review for the comparison.
